The Policy Council is currently preparing to debate the latest States Report about the new Population Management system. The report that will be debated on Tuesday 29 July focuses on a narrow, but important, part of the new system which will establish after what period of time someone should become a Permanent Resident.
Deputy Paul Luxon, Chair of the Policy Council's Population Steering Group, said:
"The Policy Council has been very much in listening mode since last year's debate, and the recommendations that we will debate at the end of the month have come about because of what Islanders and States Members have told us they want to see. Of course, there are many different opinions that exist, and we will never be able to please everybody if we are going to meet the Island's needs, but we hope that the new recommendations are accepted and that we can move on to the next phase of developing the new system."
There is another public presentation on Monday 21 July if anybody wants to find out more about the latest proposals. This will take place at Les Cotils at 19:00. Following a presentation, the Deputies that have been involved in developing the new system will be available to help answer any questions that members of the public might have.
