Coastal damage - further media enquiry

Monday 11 November 2013

Media Enquiry from Helen Devonshire, Guernsey Press:

I know we had an enquiry about the L'Eree to Fort Grey area, but I just wanted to let you know the concerns in more detail in case the department wanted to comment on these?

There is undercutting on the cement/buttresses at the bottom of the Rocque Poisson wall (towards L'Eree) and it has been suggested that sloping aprons could be put in place that would help protect the wall and slow down waves. A step has also come away from those that lead down from the road to the beach.

Environment Department response:

At present the Environment Department cannot comment on what works might be undertaken outside the repairs already instructed, other than that the work to repair the undermined section of wall at Rocque Poisson will be undertaken early next week. The States Property Services Engineers are assessing the wall again today.

The Department welcomes the public's interest in the coastal defences after storms and would ask anyone who notes damage or has any other concerns in respect of coastal walls to contact the Environment Services Unit as soon as possible (Tel: 717200 office hours). In this way inspection by the engineers can be arranged without delay.
