Installation of Signalised Pedestrian Crossing Across Les Rouvets

Friday 14 February 2014

The Environment Department is pleased to advise that Les Rouvets, Vale, is now open following works to install a signalised crossing at Les Rouvets to allow pedestrians to safely cross between Camp du Roi and Cycle World.

The signalised junction at Camp du Roi/Landes du Marche was one of only two junctions where full signalised pedestrian facilities were not previously in place. The only other outstanding junction is Rectory Hill/Rohais de Haut, for which the Board has also recently approved the installation of signalised pedestrian crossings on the Rohais de Haut and Rue Piette arms of the junction. This work is due to be carried out later this year.

The Camp du Roi/Landes du Marche junction is a very busy one and volumes of traffic using this junction are almost continuous from early morning to late evening Monday to Saturday. This makes it very difficult and potentially hazardous for pedestrians, especially children, to cross these busy flows of traffic. It is part of the walking route to Capelles School and the junction is also situated close to a number of nearby businesses. Accordingly, the Department considered that there were good road safety grounds to justify these works.

The works included realigning part of the wall of a nearby property in order to widen the pavement to an acceptable width and surface water drainage works. Rebuilding the wall and reinstatement of the garden will take a couple of weeks to complete but will not require the road closure to remain in place.
