Environment Department response to media enquiry from BBC Radio Guernsey.
Media Enquiry from BBC Radio Guernsey:
We heard from an angry islander yesterday who is upset to see that people are picking wild flowers off hedges, I just wanted to check with you whether there are any restrictions in place for this?
Environment Department Response:
The first shows of Daffodils or Primroses along the bankings are always a welcome sight after the winter so it's a pity if the flowers are picked before many people have had the chance to see them.
There is no legislation to prevent picking flowers but it is against the law to dig up any plant roots or bulbs that are growing in the wild. The Environment Department sometimes places notices in sites of special value such as cliffs and nature reserves to ask for people's co-operation by not picking the flowers.
