Media Enquiry Guernsey Press:
Under the removal of the £2 fare, I understand Environment will be covering the shortfall (loss of income) for CT Plus. Could the department just confirm how much this will amount to between now and the end of the contract?
How much does the contract with CT plus currently cost the department per month?
How much more will it cost per moth now that the £2 fares have been scrapped? What impact will this have on Environment's overall budget and financial position.
When does it envisage paid parking and the width charge will be introduce? When is it envisaged that the improved bus service, as set out in the department's transport strategy, will be introduced?
This would be for tomorrow's paper
Environment Department Response:
Under the removal of the £2 fare, I understand Environment will be covering the shortfall (loss of income) for CT Plus. Could the department just confirm how much this will amount to between now and the end of the contract?
Up to £110,000 until the contract ends on 31 March 2015.
How much does the contract with CT plus currently cost the department per month?
A flat subsidy of £212,416 is paid per month (£2,548,990 per annum).
How much more will it cost per month now that the £2 fares have been scrapped?
£110,000 divided by just over the 9.5 months left to 31 March i.e circa £11,400.
What impact will this have on Environment's overall budget and financial position?
None. The Department sees this as the first stage of moving towards a free bus service and also the first stage of putting the bus service back on a firm footing. As these are both Transport Strategy initiatives the cost will be funded from the costs set out in the transport Strategy.
When does it envisage paid parking and the width charge will be introduce?
The vehicle duties are expected to be introduced towards the end of this year once the legislation has gone through due process. Paid Parking will not be introduced before an enhanced effective bus service has been put in place. This will not be before 1 April 2015.
When is it envisaged that the improved bus service, as set out in the department's transport strategy, will be introduced?
From 1 April 2015.
