Slightly less straightforward is the parking around Cobo village. We have run a story today about businesses being unhappy about commercial users using the car park. I have spoken to the douzaine, who said while there were disc parking signs in the area, it was unenforceable, due to the land dispute. The douzaine also highlighted that the States-owned car park, to the north of the Hotel des Carteret car park, which is not disputed, does not have any parking restrictions at all.
Is it possible to have a comment about why there are parking signs, which cannot be enforced, and whether there were concerns about this confusing the public?
Also, why are there not restrictions on the other car park and are there any plans to introduce any?
Environment Department Response:
The Environment Department does not own or administer the controlled parking area around Cobo village and cannot, therefore, comment on this aspect of your enquiry.
It is true to say that the car park to the north of the car park in front of the former Hotel Les Carteret site is States owned. This is administered by the Department as a natural coastal car park and, like most such coastal car parks, has no restrictions and there are currently no intentions to introduce any.
