New Filter-in-Turn to be Installed at L'Abbaye/Route de L'Ancresse Junction (Vale Church)

Friday 07 November 2014

The Environment Department is advising road users about and imminent change to the method of traffic control at the junction of L'Abbaye and Route de L'Ancresse.

Weather permitting, a filter junction will be installed on Sunday 9 November following completion of the Public Services Department's current road resurfacing project.

The filter junction is initially being installed as a traffic experiment that is expected to last for 9 to 12 months after which a decision will be made on whether to retain it on a permanent basis.  It is being introduced following concerns raised about the difficulties road users currently face when emerging from Ville Baudu junction.  The concerns surround poor visibility to the north for which there are no practical solutions and the speed of some traffic approaching the junction from the north (L'Ancresse).

In investigating the matter, the Department was conscious that concerns have also previously been raised about traffic queuing in L'Abbaye and therefore looked for an option that might alleviate both issues.  Following site investigations and traffic counts, it has been agreed to alter the junction priorities at L'Abbaye/Route de L'Ancresse from a priority junction to a filter-in-turn which should see benefits in terms of reducing traffic delays in L'Abbaye and also reducing the speed of traffic approaching the Ville Baudu junction.

Road users are asked to pay particular attention when driving through this area in the coming weeks as people familiarise themselves with the new arrangements.  Appropriate signage will be in place to warn of the new method of junction control.

Anyone wishing to comment on the traffic experiment should write to the Traffic Services Unit, PO Box 145, Bulwer Avenue, St Sampsons, GY1 3HY or alternatively e-mail env@gov.gg.
