The Environment Department will be announcing the result of the bus contract tender early in the New Year.
The Environment Minister, Deputy Yvonne Burford, said:
"The significant work that is involved in issuing, managing and evaluating the bus contract tender is coming to a close and we will be in a position to announce the outcome very soon. This is also an opportune time to update islanders on other main parts of the Integrated Transport Strategy. The Strategy, passed by the States last May, noted that paid parking for long-stay spaces would not be introduced before April 2015; we can now be more specific and say that we are looking at implementation in the autumn. This is to allow time for the improved and expanded Residents' Parking Scheme to be in place first. The report on residents' parking, as well as revisions in response to significant public interest to the width and emissions duty legislation, have been given priority in the limited legal drafting time available to the Department ahead of paid long stay parking. This timetable will also allow for further improvements to the bus service, in addition to those introduced since May, to be rolled out before any parking charges come into effect."
