Guernsey Press Enquiry:
The latest bus passenger figures on gov.gg run up until Oct - are the November figures available yet?
Could we also have the figures for the new parish link service and the night buses? Does the department have any comments to make on what these figures show?
Environment Department Response:
The passenger figures for November show an increase over the same period last year for the seventh successive month with the year to date figure of 1,367,385 already exceeding the 2013 total of 1,354,993 with the December total still to come. Overall, passenger numbers are currently up 7.7% on the January to November period last year and have matched or exceeded 2012s figures for much of the second half of the year.
The night bus service carries approximately 2,000 passengers per month in the summer months (peaking at 2,306 passengers in August 2014) and between 1,000 - 1,500 passengers per month in the winter months (1,229 passengers were carried in November 2014).
Figures for the newly introduced Parish P1 service are currently low with the service having carried only 537 passengers to date. So far this month, the service has carried 189 passengers. However, a concerted effort will be made to further publicise this new service in the New Year and it is expected that these numbers will increase once the route becomes established and public awareness increases.
