BBC Radio Guernsey Enquiry:
BBC Radio Guernsey would like to answer a listeners' question as to whether islanders will have to have an MOT before travelling to France or the EU from 2017 with their car.
Environment Department Response:
The latest European rules on vehicle standards and testing are: 2014/45/EU; 2014/47/EU and 2014/45/EU.
To the best of the Environment Department's knowledge these Directives, which constitute the European Union Road Worthiness Package and came into force in 2014 and requires Member States to amend domestic legislation by 2017 but do not contain the requirement for an MOT before travelling to France. It is quite possible that the European Directives are being misinterpreted but if you could provide the exact title of the European legislation you are relying on the Department will be able to confirm whether or not this is the case.
