BBC Radio Guernsey Enquiry:
BBC Radio Guernsey would like to know;
- How much revenue is made by the planning application charges each year?
- How many staff the department allocates to processing the applications?
- What will the department now be doing to meet the eight week target of 80%
Environment Department Response:
In 2014, the Environment Department received £556,845 in income from planning application fees.
The Department currently has nine planning officers employed within the Development Control team dealing with approximately 2,000 planning applications per year and the provision of pre-application advice. A number of other staff within the Department are also involved in the handling of planning applications.
As at the beginning of 2014, the Department exceeded its targets for the processing of planning applications, dealing with 82% of applications within 8 weeks and 94% within 13 weeks. During 2014, three planning officers working within the Development Control team returned to the UK and replacement staff were recruited. Performance against the 8 week indicator in particular was affected. At the present time 75% of planning applications are determined in 8 weeks and 92% in 13 weeks.
The Development Control team is currently fully staffed and the Department expects to meet its targets over the coming year.
