Cornet Street - Raised Table

Tuesday 02 June 2015

In the Environment Department's Integrated Island Transport Strategy there is a commitment to improve infrastructure for pedestrians.

One improvement that the Department is proposing is to install the existing zebra crossing on a raised table to assist pedestrians, and in particular for those with mobility or other disability issues, who cross the bottom of Cornet Street, when travelling between the South Esplanade and Church Hill/Town Quay areas.  Whilst the Active Travel Unit has already consulted closely with the Disability Alliance, the Public Services Department and the Planning Section there is a legal requirement to consult with members of the public over the proposals giving a minimum 21 day response period.

The raised table will consist of a central section of 3.1m in width (east to west) at a maximum height of 100mm, a ramp on the west side of 1m in width and a ramp on the east side of 1.5m in width at the south end tapering to 1.1m in width at the north end.  These details will be listed in La Gazette Officielle on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 June and also available on a sign at the location of the proposed table.  A detailed plan is available to download from below and a paper copy can be requested from the Department's Active Travel Unit from its Bulwer Avenue office.

Anyone wishing to comment on this proposal should write to:
