Weighbridge roundabout

Wednesday 03 June 2015

Since the reduction to one southbound lane along the Town Quay most drivers travelling from the Salerie direction and intending to continue southbound are approaching the Roundabout in the right hand lane.

In accordance with the road markings that already exist on the approach to the Roundabout, drivers are also entitled to use the left hand lane and then merge lanes after the signalised crossing at the Liberation monument.

It is recognised that the current traffic sign situated by the Weighbridge clock tower is giving the impression that motorists must get in lane before exiting the Roundabout and whilst this is not what was intended, this sign is being removed.  Other temporary signs will be placed out to remind motorists to merge right as they approach the Crown Pier if they intend to carry on along The Quay and current lane marking arrows will be reinforced with written text along Glategny Esplanade where drivers approach the Roundabout from the north.

Greater use of both traffic lanes on the approach to (and around) the Roundabout should improve the efficiency of the junction.  The plan available to download below shows which lanes to use approaching the Roundabout when heading south and where to merge with existing traffic.

The opportunity is also being taken to remind drivers that when exiting from the Harbour or North Beach access road, they should be using the left hand lane, then the outer lane of the Roundabout if travelling south to the North Esplanade.  Drivers should be using the right hand lane for St Julian's Avenue and Glategny Esplanade. Temporary signs will be placed out to reinforce this message. During busy times especially, drivers are requested not to block traffic exiting from these junctions into traffic lanes that could otherwise be accessed.
