Media Enquiry from Channel Television:
Just wondering if you can tell me what rules are in place for selling produce on the hedge? I've heard you cannot sell fish on the hedge. Could you tell me exactly what is legal and not legal to sell on the hedge? Are there plans to make to stop people selling certain products and who does it?
Any info on this would be great.
Environment Department Response:
The sale of 'hedge veg', i.e. produce grown, other than on a commercial basis, within the curtilage of a dwelling house, is an ancillary domestic activity which does not require planning permission. There is a specific planning exemption contained within the 2007 Exemptions Ordnance permitting the erection of a small sign advertising the sale of such garden produce without the need for planning permission.
