Due to heavy overnight rain and further showers earlier this morning it has not been possible to carry out the necessary changes to the road markings along the Town seafront in order to be able to reintroduce two southbound traffic lanes. Unfortunately, the road surface did not dry out sufficiently quickly this morning to enable the works to begin when the required resources were available to be able to commence and then complete the works in the same day.
Given that several other teams were also scheduled to conduct works associated with redesigning of the informal crossing this morning that were not weather dependant, these works have progressed in the absence of changes to the lane markings. This includes the removal of the blister paving at the informal crossing and the installation of posts, chains and railings to allow for the reintroduction of two southbound lanes.
Whilst every effort will be made to expedite the remainder of the works, the current single southbound lane along the Town Seafront will need to remain in place for now. A new date for these works will be arranged at the earliest possible opportunity and further details in this regard will be issued shortly.
