Update - Guernsey Driving Tests

Tuesday 25 August 2015

Media Enquiry from BBC Channel Islands News:

Further to my phone call we would like to know what Guernsey's pass rate was for the practical driving test last year please? (or 2013/2014). In Jersey it was 70.3%.

Plus if possible could you also let us know, which department sets Guernsey's driving test in the island and is it based on the UK's?

Environment Department Response:

The Traffic and Transport Services Unit of the Environment is responsible for the provision of the driving test service in Guernsey.

Full details of the test can be found online (link below)

A copy of the information sheet about the specific content of the test can be accessed by following this link.

The Guernsey practical driving tests do closely mirror the UK practical driving tests, although they vary slightly as a result of local circumstances and road conditions.  The Department liaises closely with the UK on any proposals relating to driving tests and often introduces changes that are brought in by the UK authorities.  This is important for continued road safety and to ensure that our testing procedures remain similar to those undertaken in the UK in order that we can maintain existing reciprocal arrangements, whereby driving licences can be exchanged for UK and certain other overseas licences (without taking a driving test) should a Guernsey resident go to live abroad and vice versa.

The overall pass rate for 2013 was 51% and for 2014 it was 53%.
