Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
A St Sampson's resident has contacted us questioning why the cycle lane that runs by Oatlands has been closed for more than a month? The lane was resurfaced but the white line not painted back again. The school opens again tomorrow and obviously this was one of the safety measures put in place to encourage cycling, one of the key parts of the transport strategy. Can the department say why the cycle lane has not been reinstated and what the plans for it are? This is something we will be running in Friday's paper,
Environment Department Response:
It is regrettable that there has been a delay in reinstating the cycle contra-flow markings in Oatlands Lane following PSD road resurfacing. This is due to the significant amount of wet weather that has been experienced over the last few weeks and also due to an unusually heavy workload for our contractors. In particular, the changes along the Town Quay added significantly to the workload of the painting team, during a time when staff levels were lower due to annual leave.
However, the Oatlands Lane markings will be undertaken as soon as possible.
