Environment response to Guernsey Press media query
Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
In regard to our conversation, can the department please say if, through the bus contract, it is subsidising or paying for bus drivers accommodation at the former King Edward VII hospital, or indeed anywhere else in the island. If so, how much money in the contract is earmarked for this purpose and why does the department feel it necessary to do so.
If this is not the case, can the department also please confirm that too.
Environment Department Response:
The Environment Department has no knowledge of the landlord/tenant arrangements entered into by CT Plus. The bus service has for many years relied on supplementing the local driver numbers with long and short term licence holders. At least some of those drivers require accommodation and the operators have, over the years, rented accommodation and then sublet to the drivers. The Department has no knowledge as to how or if the costs are apportioned between the company and its staff. The contract is a fixed sum contract and no specific element of it is assigned to driver accommodation.
