Improved application procedures for the issuing of disability parking badges ('Blue Badge') are being introduced from 4th April 2016 in an effort to improve customer service, ensure a more consistent approach to individual applications and to better manage the increasing number of applications that are being received.
A person with moderate to severe mobility impairment can apply, in the first instance, for a badge by completing a new 'Application for a Disabled Person's Badge' form which is available for download.
In the following cases, applicants will qualify automatically for the issuing of a 'Blue Badge' without the need to attend their GP to undertake a formal assessment of their eligibility:
- In receipt of the Severe Disability Allowance;
- The registered blind;
- Have severe disability of both limbs (arms or legs).
In respect of all other mobility impairment issues, additional medical information will still need to be provided. Information regarding the application requirements for these conditions is detailed on the 'Application for a Disabled Person's Badge' form Blue Badge Application Form [226kb].
If an applicant has concerns about any medical condition and / or the application process for a 'Blue Badge', the Department's medicals team would be happy to talk in the strictest confidence (Tel: 202229 or 202201).
In addition, to enable a more regular review of the continued validity of the dispensations afforded by their issue and to help ensure that a Guernsey issued 'Blue Badge' is more readily recognised for use within the U.K., a 'Blue Badge' will now be issued for a maximum period of three years (reducing from the current ten year maximum validity period).
