The Education Department provides a range of statutory and non-statutory education, training and support services.
The structure of education provision is broadly similar to that in England. The Department is responsible for approximately 9,000 pupils in 12 primary schools; a small school in Herm, an all age school in Alderney, three high schools, the Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre and the College of Further Education. The Department operates three special needs schools and grant aids three Colleges.
Statutory education provision is from age 5 to 16.
The Education Department operates a number of Support Services which provide advice and guidance to schools and the College of Further Education. Some support services work with children and young people with special educational needs, others support children, young people and their families across the education service.
The Department is responsible for advising the States on matters relating to the Guille-Allès and Priaulx Libraries. It also provides the Schools' Library Service.
