Electric motorcycle on trial

Friday 22 July 2016

Following on from a recent public electric vehicle open day held at Vazon, a fully electric motorcycle will be in Guernsey for public evaluation during the week commencing Monday 25th July.

The electric motorcycle is a 'Zero S' model, one of a range of electric motorcycles built by Zero, a company based in California.  Charles Fossey, the Jersey owner of this particular motorcycle, has kindly loaned the 'Zero S' to Traffic and Highway Services to help promote the use of electric vehicles.

Charles Fossey said,

"I have owned this bike since 2013 and it has been totally reliable. I use it around Jersey as it is ideally suited for the short journeys around the island. This model has a range averaging 100 miles, which is easily enough for one battery charge a week which costs around £1.30. With a boost charger the battery can be topped up in around 1.5 hours, or around 6.5 hours if the battery was fully discharged. As there are very little servicing costs it really is a very economical form of transport.

"As the Zero range uses lightweight aircraft grade aluminium to minimise the weight of the frames and the latest belt driven drivetrain electronic technology, they produce efficient and smooth power so they really are very easy to ride."

Sean Fuller from EV Guernsey said,

"The Zero is one of the few electric motorbikes on the market and the only one with dealer representation in the Channel Islands. It's an excellent way to get around our island, being versatile, fun and easy to maintain while releasing no fumes or emissions in use. Well worth a look at if you are in the market for a new motorcycle."

The Zero motorcycle will be available for inspection between 8am-9am at North Beach motor cycle park on Wednesday 27th July, and at Smith Street motorcycle park between 8am-9am on Thursday 28th July.  Anyone who would like more information is asked to contact Traffic and Highway Services on 202211.
