HSC has had to reluctantly cancel, and will have to reschedule, breast screening appointments due to a persistent fault with a mammography x-ray unit.
UK engineers are on site on a daily basis working on the equipment.
Any women, who clinicians decide are clinically urgent, will be prioritised and alternative imaging will be carried out or an off Island referral will be arranged.
Jan Coleman, Director of Acute Services commented:
"HSC regret that we have had to cancel these important screening appointments. We will resume normal service as quickly as possible.
Once the equipment is back up and running we will ensure that we prioritise the patients that have been postponed and catch up with our scheduled screening programme as soon as we can.
In the meantime, I would like to reassure any patients who are referred to the hospital by their GP with possible symptoms of breast cancer that they will be supported with access to the necessary diagnostic tests."
