Six lucky participants in the Household Expenditure Survey have received their cash prizes totalling £1,000.
Ms Pat Millar, winner of the top prize of £500, was delighted with the news: "I've never won anything in my life and now this amount of money. I am going to be able to go to see my family and make it a proper holiday."
Ms Millar contacted the survey team after reading in the Guernsey Press that volunteers are being sought. "I wanted to be involved. I wanted to be part of the official record of what it costs to live these days. I think the right questions are being asked to find out what the cost of living is."
When asked if it was a chore to complete the survey, Pat said "Not a bit. A lovely gentleman came and we just had a chat. Keeping shopping receipts in the little diary was easy. I'd do it all again."
Mrs Jo Delbridge signed up to take part and won £100: "I was delighted with my win. The survey really doesn't take too much time."
The Household Expenditure Survey is running for 12 months and there will be another two cash prize draws in early 2019 - one in February and one in May.
Everyone is invited to take part - from single person households, to big families, to house-sharers. As a thank you for taking part every household is offered the choice of either a ticket to the quarterly cash prize draw with a top prize of £500, or a £25 dining voucher for one of Randall's local restaurants. The survey team is pleased to respond to any enquiries about taking part whether by email to hes@gov.gg or by phone on 01481 717188.
The data collected in the survey is treated in the strictest confidence. The prize winners featured have given their consent to be named in the media.
