Having previously published details of a proposed increase in maximum taxi fares for public comment, The Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure can now confirm that maximum taxi fares will increase by an average of 3.56% with immediate effect.
The increase has been calculated in accordance with an established formula (the Halcrow Formula¹) that takes into account taxi operating costs and average earnings. As the fare tariff utilises 20p units, it will mean that the majority of fares will rise by between 20p and 40p in Tariff 1 and between 40p and 60p in Tariff 2. The following example fares demonstrate the effects of the agreed increase:
- A 2.0 mile journey on Tariff 1* will increase by 20p to £6.80
- A 4.0 mile journey on Tariff 1* will increase by 40p to £10.80
- A 3.0 mile journey on Tariff 2* will increase by 40p to £12.40
- A 5.0 mile journey on Tariff 2* will increase by 60p to £18.00
