Guernsey Harbours will no longer be accepting any applications for bait digging at St Peter Port Harbour.
Any current digging arrangements will cease after 31st December 2019.
The decision was taken following an internal review by the Port Operations team and other stakeholders.
Head of Port Operations for Guernsey Harbours, Jerome Davis said:
"Currently bait digging in St Peter Port Harbour can only be carried out at certain low tides, and areas of the harbour with permission. We believe digging for bait at St Peter Port Harbour is no longer appropriate and there are numerous other areas and sites around the island more suited to the purpose."
Bait digging is already banned at St Sampson's Harbour, including the commercial and hydrocarbon berths that dry out at low tide on safety grounds.
