The Committee for Health & Social Care, following recommendations made by the Prescribing and Formulary Panel, has agreed to add two medicines to the prescribing list - more commonly known as the 'White List'.
These are:
- Kaftrio- a triple combination therapy used in the treatment of cystic fibrosis.
As a precision medicine, it is not suitable for all individuals with cystic fibrosis as it targets a specific genotype. Its availability locally builds upon the decisions made late last year to enable Orkambi and Symkevi to be prescribed;
- Opicapone - which can be used in the management of the symptoms of Parkinson's by helping other prescribed medications work more effectively when the available alternative is not tolerated.
Dr Peter Rabey, Medical Director said:
'The addition of medicines and medical appliances onto the 'White List' ensures that the best possible use is made of public funds. Drugs and appliances are assessed and recommended for use by the Prescribing and Formulary Panel having taken account of the latest scientific evidence. Recommendations are made on a monthly basis for drugs to be added or removed from the list.'
The 'White List' details medicines (drugs) and medical appliances that are available to residents of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm & Jethou on prescription. Further details can be found here: https://gov.gg/whitelist
