Public Health re-launch Walking for Health Programme after break for COVID

Tuesday 06 April 2021

Public Health Services are re-launching their Walking for Health walks after stopping during the lockdown restrictions.

The walks are free and take approximately 30 minutes and are aimed at those people who want to get a little fitter in the company of like-minded people.  The walks are held on every day except Saturdays at a variety of locations and are led by trained volunteers. Refreshments can be purchased at the end of the route so that walkers can stay and enjoy each other's company.

The leader's role is to encourage walkers to walk a little further and/or faster each time and to gradually increase their fitness.  The scheme is part of the UK Walking for Health programme and is supported by the Ramblers Association whose aim is to promote walking as one of the simplest and most effective forms of exercise.

Public Health Business Manager Yvonne Le Page said:

"We are very pleased to be able to bring back our walks for those people who want to walk regularly. Our walk leaders are keen to welcome both past participants and new walkers who want to try out our routes and to encourage everyone to get a little fitter through taking part.  To join all you need to do is attend a few minutes earlier than the advertised start time and make yourself known to the leader with the red rucksack and high-vis vest."

Further details on all of the walks can be found at www.walkingforhealth.org.uk or by telephoning the Public Health Service tel 01481 227311.
