Coastal defence works to take place at St. George's Esplanade

Friday 18 June 2021

With the first half of the repair and maintenance works for the Havelet seawall approaching completion, the appointed contractor for these works will soon commence works on the St. George's Esplanade sea wall.

These works will begin from Monday 21st June and are expected to take approximately 20 weeks.

This is the next project in the Coastal Infrastructure Team's continuous programme of repair and maintenance works of the Island's coastal defences.

The works are primarily repointing the wall (renewing the mortar joints), however where necessary further remedial works will be undertaken.

Once these works at St. George's Esplanade are complete, the contractor will then return to complete the second half of work at Havelet seawall. In this way, use of Havelet Bay during the peak summer season is not disrupted.

For the duration of these works there will be a loss of the short stay (1hr) parking at the Salarie car park for the site compound, but the slipway will remain accessible. The footpath/cycle path will be pedestrian only for the duration of the works to allow safe working area for the masons. Cyclists will be asked to dismount to pass the works (they will not be asked to use the road as there isn't a safe access point to the north). There will be no impact to traffic.
