As part of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure's priority workstream to facilitate the use of public transport as a more convenient and viable form of transport, a new bus shelter has been installed at L'Islet and changes to a shelter at Les Mielles Road, Vale means additional passengers can benefit.
The new shelter at L'Islet links into the existing coastal footpath so users have easy access from local residences in the area.
The shelter at Les Mielles Road, Vale has also been relocated into the existing bus terminus for this area. Previously this shelter only served passengers travelling eastbound on the 91 bus service. By relocating the shelter to the terminus, and having the 91 call into the terminus instead of collecting passengers on the roadside, passengers waiting for the 11, 12 and 92 will now also be able to make use of this shelter.
It is intended for low output solar powered illumination to be installed at both the L'Islet and Les Mielles shelters.
Colin Le Page of Traffic & Highway Services commented:
"We're always investigating opportunities to make bus travel more pleasant and more appealing for Islanders. At the moment, new shelters have also been approved for Four Cabot, St. Andrews and at St. Martins Community Centre, with other locations under review. We'd welcome hearing from bus users if they have suggestions where additional bus shelters may be of benefit. If you have a suggestion for us, please email traffic@gov.gg or telephone 01481 223400."
