The Commerce and Employment Department has published a Consultation Paper on possible changes to the current methods of inspecting, testing, and certificating electricity installations.
At present, under the provisions of the Electricity Law, these functions are carried out by Guernsey Electricity, but this is an unusual arrangement, and elsewhere electricity installation certification is carried out under the Building Regulations.
The Department has decided that, following the Review of Utility Regulation, now would be an appropriate moment to reconsider the current arrangements, and this decision has the full support of Guernsey Electricity.
The Consultation Paper has been circulated to electrical contractors in the Island, as well as to other interested parties such as the Environment Department and the OUR.
However, there is also an open invitation to the general public to respond, and copies of the Consultation paper can be obtained from Raymond Falla House, and from the States' website.
The closing date of the consultation is Wednesday the 14th March and depending on the responses received the Commerce and Employment Department will consider laying proposals before the States later in the year.
