As part of Traffic & Highway Services continued review of the public bus service and commitment to providing a comprehensive and convenient network to all Islanders, a number of timetable changes are proposed to be brought into effect from 28 February 2022.
A review of bus fares and payment options has also been undertaken. Most notably, cash fares will be discontinued. Throughout the pandemic, cash fares have not been accepted due to the increased risk posed through the transfer of physical cash from passengers to drivers and visa versa. The service has transitioned to completely 'contactless' with no loss of functionality and therefore it is proposed this method is maintained going forward. A variety of Smartcard payment options are available, accounting for two thirds of payments currently, and the introduction of contactless payments (Visa, Apple Pay etc.) in late 2019 has also proved very popular, accounting for the final third of payments.
A public consultation is now open until Friday 21 January 2022. Anybody wishing to comment should do so in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or to The Director of Traffic & Highway Services, Bulwer Avenue Office, Bulwer Avenue, St. Sampson, GY2 4LR.
The proposed fare structure is as follows. The sections in bold highlight the proposed changes.
The proposed route amendments to the current timetable are as follows.
The following extra services/time changes are also proposed for Monday - Friday, a number of which look to provide improved connectivity to and from the PEH / Town and to assist transport options for key workers. Sundayservices are designed to extend end of day last departures.
In addition to the above it is proposed:
- The Sunday Route 94 20:35 departure from Town Terminus is removed and replaced by S3 service above;
- That Routes 11 and 13 call into Admiral Park as they pass by;
- There are minor timing point changes on Routes 11, 61 and 71 to enhance reliability. This will not affect the Town Terminus departure times.
