The Autumn 2023/24 booster programme has now ended. The only people who can access a COVID-19 vaccine at his time are those with a severely weakened immune system.
COVID-19 vaccines for people with a severely weakened immune system
COVID-19 vaccines are normally given seasonally, but some people with a severely weakened immune system may need additional protection at other times. This may be because of a health condition or medical treatment.
Your specialist or GP will assess if you or your child (aged 6 months or over) is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. They should let you know when to get vaccinated and help you access a vaccine. Speak to your specialist or GP for advice.
Autumn Booster 2023
Autumn boosters were offered in accordance with the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice. Those eligible for an Autumn Booster were:
- Care Home residents & residential care workers
- Healthcare and social care workers
- All adults aged 65+
- Immunosuppressed and those clinically at risk (5-64)
- Household contacts of those who are immunosuppressed.
The JCVI continues to recommend a primary course of two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine for those aged under 5 years as the immunity profile of these children is less certain and may change for future birth cohorts.
JCVI guidance on the 2024 Autumn Booster Programme is not yet available. You can read the JCVI's advice on the latest COVID-19 programme here.
