Training delivered in 2020 by HSC Speech and Language therapists has resulted in range of Education staff (14 primary age staff and 10 pre-school/nurseries staff) completing an Elklan training course which is an OFQUAL certified training course for people working with children with speech, language and communication needs.
Fiona Black, Acting Lead Speech and Language Therapy said:
'This evidence-based training provides practitioners with tools to understand how to speak to children, have strategies in place to encourage talking and have the knowledge to support a child with interaction difficulties.'
Because of the pandemic, the certificates for this course have only just arrived in the Bailiwick and, to celebrate their achievements, an awards ceremony has been arranged on 17 June 2021 at Les Marais Centre.
Fiona said:
'This is a great example of Committees working together for the benefit of children in our community who have special educational needs.
It seems like its been a long road to completion for this qualification so the event in June is to say well done and thank you for sticking with it.'
