Non-profit organisations combatting financial crime

In order to protect the activities and purposes of Guernsey and Alderney based Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) and charities from the financing of terrorism, money laundering, bribery and corruption, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to promote public confident and preserve the integrity of the sector, local NPOs and charities that carry out international activities must register with the Office of the Registrar of Charities etc and comply with the The Charities etc. (Guernsey and Alderney) Ordinance, 2021 and The Charities etc. (Amendments, Exemptions, Governance and Specified Amount) (Guernsey and Alderney) Regulations, 2022.

It is also compulsory for publicly funded local charities/NPOs with gross assets worth £100,000 or more or annual turnover of £20,000 or more, to be registered.

 

The Charities etc. (Guernsey and Alderney) Ordinance, 2021

This Ordinance incorporates the governance measures and legal obligations of NPOs/charities. Financial crime risk mitigation measures are risk-based and contain additional requirements for charities/NPOs that carry out international activities in line with current best practice.
