After record visitors in 2011, Castle Cornet and Fort Grey Shipwreck Museum open their doors to the public on Friday 30 March.

After record visitors in 2011, Castle Cornet and Fort Grey Shipwreck Museum open their doors to the public on Friday 30 March.

To mark the opening of the Castle, the first noon‐day gun of the season will be fired by a member of staff from Cannon Asset Management, which sponsors the ammunition for the firing of the gun. During the season Castle visitors can enjoy living history displays, themed historical tours the Maritime and Royal Guernsey Light Infantry Regimental Museums along with the Story of the Castle, the 201 Squadron RAF Museum and the Royal Guernsey Militia Museum.

A full four days of historical themed family activities will be built around the Easter Festival of Living History from 6‐9 April. In the summer, KPMG Castle Nights will once again allow visitors to enjoy free entertainment such as live music, poetry and dance during July and August. Special events are being built around the Queen's Jubilee and this year's family Summer Festival will take place on Sunday 19 August.

Fort Grey will open its doors for visitors to enjoy the unique displays of shipwrecks, lighthouses, diving, navigation and rescues and items of nautical interest. Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery's busy season of exhibitions continues with 'From Earth to the Solar System'.

Museums Director Jason Monaghan said:

"Last year was a great year for Guernsey Museums; we are offering something of interest for all locals and visitors, with many family activities across our sites again this year. Thousands of people also enjoyed archaeological sites and fortifications which are dotted around the island and can be visited for free. We are looking forward to opening the refurbished Rona Cole Art Gallery, which will host the Museum's most prestigious and best loved paintings, including The People's Choice, chosen by islanders."

Guernsey Museums sites are open daily from 10.00am‐5pm (4.30pm at Fort Grey) daily until 28 October. Unlimited entry to all Guernsey Museums sites for 12 months can be obtained by purchasing a 'Heritage Season Ticket' from Museums sites or the Guernsey Information Centre.
