Transit through Southampton Airport, Portsmouth and Poole ports will not affect travellers' categorisation

Wednesday 12 May 2021

The Civil Contingencies Authority has agreed that from the 14th May 2021, transiting through Southampton Airport or Poole and Portsmouth ferry ports will not affect the 'category' applied to travellers to the Bailiwick.

From the 14th May, people travelling to the Bailiwick of Guernsey will be treated as either Category 2, 3 or 4 arrivals depending on their travel history in the 14 days before their journey.  In most cases, if the airport or port they travel through is in a higher category region than where they spent the rest of the 14 days before their journey, it WILL mean that higher category is applied to them, and they will need to observe testing and self-isolation requirements in line with the higher category (details about the categories and the associated requirements can be found here:  Travelling to and from the Bailiwick | States of Guernsey - COVID-19 (gov.gg).

However, today the CCA has met and agreed that an exception to this should be applied to Southampton Airport and Portsmouth and Poole ferry ports, which have been and continue to be key travel corridors for commercial air and sea journeys to and from the Bailiwick.

The CCA has also reviewed the current criteria for the categories, including the prevalence thresholds, but has agreed to make no change to those currently applied.  The CCA will hold its next live COVID-19 briefing at 1pm on Friday 14th May where it will provide a detailed overview of those criteria and the modelling used in determining how they are set.
