Make the move to paradise

Guernsey, and its sister island of Alderney, are located in the English Channel, 50km off the north-west coast of France and 120km from the southern English coast. Herm Island, Sark Island and Lihou are also part of 'The Bailiwick of Guernsey' so we have a total of five beautiful islands for you to call home.

Horizontal Islands

You can discover more about each island here or head over to locateguernsey.com which has detailed information about making the move to island life. Or before you go into that detail, you might enjoy this video to see why we think our islands are so beautiful. And with an average 20 minute commute islanders are never far from from the beach!

The Bailiwick of Guernsey is self-governing and self-funding, and is known for 'punching above its weight' in terms of the quality of life it offers. The islands are welcoming, safe and peaceful. With a population of around 63,000, you will quickly get to know our supportive community, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easy it can be to travel between sweeping bays, clifftop viewpoints and our historical harbour town, in a short space of time. Our average commute is around 20 minutes, and many people prefer to use their bicycle, instead of their car. You will be able to enjoy cliff walking, sea swimming, island hopping, al fresco dining, sports clubs, a full calendar of local events, and some of the best sunsets around.

Work-life balance

A healthy work-life balance can be easily achieved in Guernsey, and it's something that we pride ourselves on. Take it from Jeanne Coates, who moved to our islands to work for Health and Social Care as a Health Visitor. Click on the video below to hear Jeanne talk about settling in, opportunities for the whole family and having more time for all of the little - but important - things.

Getting here

There are regular flights and ferries between the UK and Guernsey. Gatwick Airport is one of the many airports that you can fly from, and flights can take as little as 40 minutes.

Employment permits

There are conditions for living in Guernsey and Alderney, but the health and social care profession is one of the areas that can qualify for a permit. Information about employment permits, if applicable, and contacts for those who can help you discuss this further are listed within our job vacancies - simply select 'Health and Social Care' as the job family. You can also find out more about living and working in Guernsey.
