Bailiwick Security Policy Released

Maintaining the island's way of life is at the heart of Home Affairs newly published Bailiwick Security Policy.

Now published and subject to consideration by the States, the policy will become a pillar of the Future Guernsey plan.

Committee for Home Affairs President Deputy Mary Lowe said:

"The primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the safety and security of its people. The Bailiwick Security Policy sets out how this is being achieved today and will be in the future. It lays out, underpins and directs decision making on security in this jurisdiction - setting out our core security values and principles.

"This document explains how we commit to keep the Bailiwick safe, and by extension how we will play our part in preserving the stability and prosperity we so cherish.

"I am proud to bring this document before the States as we need to put our full weight behind the commitment to keep our community safe."

This deliberately high-level document will assist the Committee in adapting to the fast changing nature of the modern security landscape.

The Bailiwick Security Policy will provide the platform on which more detailed plans about specific issues can be built. Broadly, it will mean working with multiple stakeholders and agencies over the long term to ensure the Bailiwick is alert to, and prepared for, the very latest security threats.

The first specific area where it is proposed to build upon this platform is the telecommunications infrastructure.  This is set out the Telecommunications Supply Chain Security Framework document, also issued this week, which focusses on the need to ensure high levels of integrity and security within the telecommunications network.
