Waste Disposal Authority bill query

Prior to 2019, household waste charges were included in the annual parish rates bill, and calculated according to the size of a property. That system has now been replaced by a combination of fixed charges, per household, plus a "pay as you throw" charge for each bag of general waste produced.

Property owners will receive an annual bill from the States to cover some of the costs incurred in managing the island's waste. Bills are calculated based on the number of self-contained habitable housing units within each named property. A housing unit is defined as a self-contained area behind a lockable door with facilities for cooking, washing and sleeping.

Number of housing units

If, having received a bill, you as the property owner believe you have reason to dispute the number of housing units your property consists of, please follow this link.  Alternatively, you can download, print and complete the "housing units" dispute form from the downloads section of this page.  Please note that any dispute must be submitted by the due date stated on the invoice; any disputes received after that date will not be considered.

Uninhabitable property

A property does not need to be occupied to receive a bill. All housing units which are in a habitable condition will be liable to the annual charge. Under certain circumstances, for example when a property is derelict and therefore not habitable, the owners can lodge a dispute against the charge.

If, having received a bill, you as the property owner believe you have reason to dispute the charge based on the property being uninhabitable, please follow this link.  Alternatively, you can download, print and complete the "uninhabitable property" form from the downloads section of this page. Please note that any dispute must be submitted by the due date stated on the invoice; any disputes received after that date will not be considered.
