Friday 17 October 2014

A new team is now in place to help deliver the Integrated Transport Strategy which was approved by the States earlier this year.

The new 'Active Travel Unit' is headed up by Colin Le Page who has over 20 years' experience in the Traffic and Transport section of the Environment Department, and is joined by Rex Williams as Road Safety Officer and Tim Prout as Active Travel Officer.

Rex Williams is a former Police Officer and has over three years' experience in road policing, while Tim Prout who has over 15 years marketing and communications experience, has moved across from Culture and Leisure.

Deputy Yvonne Burford, Minister for the Environment Department said:

"We would like to welcome the new team members who we know are very enthusiastic and have already made a start on some of the very important areas within the strategy.  Road safety around schools, small car parking spaces, business and schools travel plans, and reviewing the existing cycling infrastructure, including new and additional bike shelters and hoops, are already being worked on."

"There are also many road safety initiatives that the staff will be running/supporting; the first will be working with Living Streets in promoting "Bright Day" which takes place on Friday 24th October, when businesses are encouraged to Dress Down to help raise money for Road Safety Week. For more information on how to take part in Bright Day please contact Pat Wisher by email: patwisher@cwgsy.net. And next month the staff will be working closely with Living Streets and the Guernsey Police during Road Safety Week which runs between 17 and 23 November. During this week, the team will be out and about in St Peter Port during some late afternoons delivering free High Visibility vests to people who are walking home or to car parks, to help raise awareness of walking safely at night."
