The recycling site at Longue Hougue will close for the morning only on Tuesday 28 February, for essential resurfacing works. The site will reopen at 12.30 pm.
The works include scraping back the surface and filling any pot holes with hardcore. The whole area will then be covered in reused road planings before being rolled flat.
Recycling Officer, Tina Norman-Ross, said remedial works were carried out periodically, and particularly in the winter months.
'Given the nature of the site and the heavy usage, the surface can get quite pot holed and uneven, we hope the half day closure to address this issue will not cause too much inconvenience for site users,' she said.
Planning permission has been approved for a new, purpose built Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Longue Hougue. This would replace the current temporary facility, and will feature a concrete base and fully constructed access ways. Construction is due to commence this year.
Mrs Norman-Ross said this will be major improvement on the current arrangements.
'The facility at Longue Hougue has been phenomenally successful, but up until now it has always been a temporary site. As such we have been limited in terms of making any significant investment. The planned new Household Waste Recycling Centre will be purpose built and will provide much better facilities.
