Monday 17 June 2019
On Sunday 23rd June 2019 celebrations will take place at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital to mark the 70th anniversary of its official opening in 1949 by the Princess Elizabeth.
It's a significant historical event that will highlight the important connection with the community that the Hospital has fostered since the post World War 2 years of its opening to its continuing development today with the recently approved modernisation programme.
The public is invited to join in the celebrations which start at 11.00 am for the official opening of the PEH 70th Anniversary Exhibition by Health & Social Care President Deputy Heidi Soulsby. The exhibition will include many images never seen before, both of the hospital and staff before and after the German Occupation as well as photographs and audio recordings from former employees and patients.
Between 11.30 and 12.00pm there will be a celebratory service in the Emma Ferbrache room delivered by the Chaplaincy Team featuring readings, poetry and a performance from the Hope Choir.
A special 70th Anniversary menu will be available in the Gloucester Restaurant from 12.00pm till 2.00pm where free family activities will include face painting plus live music.
Lottie Barnes, Culture, Arts & Health Manager, HSC said:
"It's such a privilege to be part of this celebration for the PEH. Having collated so many historical photographs and hearing some of the poignant stories for the exhibition, you realise what an integral part of Island life the PEH has played and continues to play."
Deputy Heidi Soulsby, President HSC said:
"It's an honour to take part in, and celebrate with the public such a significant landmark event for the PEH. All the hard work and care contributed by former and present day employees continues to underpin the unique bond between the PEH and the community. I very much look forward to opening this exhibition and enjoying the other activities"
The displays are making good progress, and will be completed over the coming week.
