The States' Assembly & Constitution Committee are keen to learn how you would like to receive information from the States of Guernsey about candidates in the lead up to the General Election which will take place in June 2020.
There are a number of options that the States of Guernsey could provide to assist voters and candidates. These might include:
- a 'combined manifesto booklet' that incorporates all of the candidate manifestos into one document; and
- the creation of video and audio shorts for candidates to broadcast their message; and
- enabling the general public to submit questions to candidates online
The Committee has published a questionnaire to learn how you would like to receive information from the States of Guernsey about candidates. This will guide what the Committee will look to produce.
The survey is available online www.gov.gg/election2020consult and on request in hard copy from the Committee.
The President of the States' Assembly & Constitution Committee, Deputy Neil Inder, said:
"We want to hear how voters want us to provide them with information about candidates. We are considering the production of a "combined manifesto booklet" and would like to know how much information voters want to receive and how. Do they want the booklet delivered to their house? Available for collection or just online?
In past elections, Guernsey has had parish hustings. With Island- wide voting, they are unlikely to continue in that format. We would like your thoughts on how the States could help voters meet with candidates, given door to door canvassing is likely to reduce.
There are many things for us to consider before presenting our final guidance to the States and feedback from the public is vital."
The Committee has also produced an online document "General Election 2020: Guidance on the changes to the General Election rules" to provide some general information about the Election and the changes that have recently been agreed. This can be accessed online at: www.gov.gg/election2020consult
