Maintenance and repair work on the coastal defence wall at Grand Port will be commencing this week.
This follows the completion of the scheduled maintenance and repair works to preserve the life and function of the sea defence wall from Catioroc to Perelle.
Given Grand Port's great exposure to the sea, this section of sea defence is a high priority and is the next project area on the Coastal Infrastructure Team's annual programme of works to strengthen Guernsey's sea defences.
The works are primarily repointing the wall (renewing the mortar joints), however where necessary further remedial works will be undertaken.
These works will span the duration of the summer and into autumn to be completed ahead of the winter.
Whilst works are progressing on the battery and southwards towards the Douit Du Moulin Slipway there will be no traffic impact. However when work is occurring in other sections there will likely be a short road obstruction when works move north from the battery. No traffic lights are expected to be used alongside these works, so road users are asked to take care when passing the works. Works impacting the road are expected to commence in September.
