Construction of Phase 1 is due to start this spring
It will involve the refurbishment and extension of the old Ozanne Ward, extending the footprint to the south.
It will deliver a new purpose-built Critical Care Unit (CCU) with increased capacity from 7 to 12 beds and a Post Anaesthesia Recovery Unit with 10 beds that can swiftly be converted to additional critical care beds to support any future pandemic demands or other emergency situations.
The benefits:
- Increasing CCU capacity will support increased surgical capacity and help reduce the waiting lists, avoiding the risk of further health complications that can arise due to delayed surgery
- Its new layout and location adjacent to theatres and PACU will support emergency and pandemic situations
- All single rooms with natural light and hoists will enhance and improve patient recovery and clinical safety
- New staff and relatives facility improves privacy and dignity, reducing stress for patients and relatives
