Parents and Carers reminded to complete school admissions by deadline

Parents and carers in Guernsey and Alderney are being reminded to register their child for a place in their catchment Primary School to start in September 2017.

Children due to start school must be registered by 3pm Friday 16th December. Although children may still be registered after this period they will have a lower priority for the allocation of available spaces at their catchment school than those who registered within the registration period.

Children reaching the age of 5 by 1st September 2017 must attend school or be educated otherwise, unless exempt in law. Children who reach the age of 4 by 31st August 2017 may start in Reception and should be registered in the same way.

Parents and carers can register by completing a form which is available from the primary school which serves the catchment area in which they live. Catchment maps are available online at www.gov.gg/catchmentareas . Forms can also be downloaded from www.gov.gg/schooladmissions . Pupils in Alderney must be registered at St Anne's School.

Children in Guernsey who are baptised Catholic may be registered at one of the two voluntary Catholic Primary schools, Notre Dame du Rosaire or St Mary & St Michael (further details on Catholic school admissions is available in section 3.3 of the Admissions Policy).

Parents and carers must return the completed form to the catchment school accompanied by a photocopied proof of address (e.g. utility bill, driving licence), copy of the child's birth certificate and photographic proof of the parent or carer's identity (e.g. driving licence or passport). Only one form should be completed per child for either the catchment school or one of the Catholic schools for those who are baptised Catholic.

Parents and carers seeking a place for their child at a school that is not their catchment school are advised to refer to the Education Services' School Admissions Policy and supporting information, which is available online at www.gov.gg/schooladmissions. If parents wish to apply for an out of catchment place, they should still register their child for a place at their catchment area school by the closing date.
