Referendum on Guernsey's voting system

Interested in forming or joining a campaign group in advance of the referendum on Guernsey's voting system?

On Monday 16th April, 2018 an event will be held at The Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts for individuals or groups interested in applying to be a 'campaign group' for one of the options in the October referendum on Guernsey's voting system. The presentation will start at 7.00pm.

The event will provide interested individuals and groups the opportunity to learn more about the role of campaign groups in the referendum, put any relevant questions to the States' Assembly & Constitution Committee and also provide an opportunity for people who are interested in representing an option to meet.

There will be a brief presentation in the main auditorium at 7:00 p.m. followed by a question and answer session. There will be tables for each option in the referendum to create areas for individuals interested in representing that option to meet.

Deputy Peter Roffey, President of the States' Assembly & Constitution Committee said,

"This event is an opportunity for people interested in forming or joining a group to learn more about the purpose of the campaign groups, the application and decision process, and the referendum as a whole.

It is also an opportunity for people interested in forming, or joining, a group to meet like-minded individuals and consider whether they wish to put a group together".

In advance of this meeting, the Committee has published a guidance note "Applying to be a campaign group", available to download at www.gov.gg/referendum, which provides an overview of the application process and what information will be requested from prospective groups as part of their application.

Deputy Roffey continued:

"On 18th April, 2018, the States will consider proposals from the Committee to appoint the three members of the Campaign Group Assessments Panel who will assess the applications from the prospective groups. If the States approves the proposed Panel, the prospective groups will have until noon on Friday the 25th May, 2018 to submit their applications.

The application form can be completed online at www.gov.gg/referendum or by completing an electronic application form, available to download on that page."

Anyone seeking further information regarding applying to be a campaign group, or the referendum more generally, should contact Ms E Dene, the Lead Referendum Officer, at referendum@gov.gg or by telephone on 717284.
