1 Provisional driving licences for categories P, A1, A, B1, F, G, or L will be issued for a maximum of 2 years only. Applicants must wait 12 months between renewals except for motorcycle categories P, A1 & A which can be renewed within the month prior to expiry provided that the applicant holds a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) or Direct Access (DA) training course certificate. After renewal, the applicant will then have to take a repeat 'Direct Access' motorcycle training course within one month of licence renewal.
Full driving licences are normally issued for a maximum of 10 years to expire the month prior to a decade birthday. The duration may be reduced based on the category of licence held, the age of the applicant and/or if the applicant has any medical conditions that may affect their fitness to drive.

First Registration Duty
First Registration Duty applies to new and second-hand vehicles being imported and registered in Guernsey for the first time. The Duty will be applied as part of the normal vehicle registration process and is charged in addition to the current registration and any other fees.
First Registration Duty is based on the motor vehicle's fuel type and either the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions or, where there are no CO2 figures available, the vehicle's engine size (cc). For the avoidance of doubt, fully electric vehicles are are classed as being "0" CO2 or, in the case of a motorcycle, "0" CC.
The rates of Duty for non-diesel vehicles, diesel vehicles and motorcycles are shown in the tables below:
